This is Geoff Johnson, PTFIC Chair. Sorry I haven’t reached out to some of you over the Summer until now, but I’m very much looking forward to working with all of you this year.
I would like to welcome two new members to the committee, Amber Wallick from San Bernardino CCD TA, and Jacques Belval from Monterey Peninsula CCD TA. I know both their locals are in the hard fight for PT Healthcare and working towards improving part-time faculty working conditions.
I have arranged it so that once again, I will be holding CCA part-time Visioning Sessions via zoom every 3rd Tuesday of the month, from 4-6 PM. These sessions are designed to allow CCA part-time faculty and part-time faculty allies to come together and discuss everything from PT faculty-related bargaining issues, to local contract campaigns, organizing, to upcoming legislation in general.
The sessions are not designed to be formal presentations, but a space where folks can can basic PT-related info, then engage in discussion with others not always possible for those who don’t attend CCA conferences.
I always provide some info at each session, and will come in with two or three possible agenda items, but the main point is to facilitate participant discussion on issues they have an interest in.
The first session of this year is next Tuesday, August 20th. At this meeting, I will lead off with updates regarding PT-related legislation, PT healthcare updates, then open it up for possible local union issue updates.
If you can make it, I would like to have all of the PTFIC members at the session so that I can introduce you, and let you give a little on your interests, concerns, and passions regarding part-time faculty related issues.
