After completing his service in the U.S. Marines, Jesus began his academic journey at Rio Hondo College before transferring to UCLA to study Applied Mathematics and minor in Statistics, and Pure Mathematics at CSULA. Along the way, he participated in three NSF programs and was awarded the prestigious Eugene Cota-Robles Fellowship at UC Riverside, where he pursued a Ph.D. in Pure Mathematics. He often points to his transitions out of the Marines and later from his Ph.D. program defining inflection points that shaped his journey.

A proud “road scholar” from Baldwin Park, Jesus has been teaching mathematics full-time at Citrus College since 2008. His work extended beyond the classroom through the California Math and Science Project (CaMSP) Grant, where he partnered with local schools to support teachers from elementary through high school. At Citrus, he played a key role in securing successful grant applications that directly benefited students, and his dedication to teaching earned him twice the UC Irvine’s Outstanding Educator Award.

Jesus is also deeply committed to unionism and leadership. Actively engaged at the local, state, and national levels, he currently serves as Treasurer of his local chapter. He brings a wealth of experience as a graduate of two CCA academies, the NEA Organizing Track, active participation in conferences, CCA Board, CTA State Council HE delegate, and NEA HE delegate to the Representative Assembly. His leadership has been recognized with Citrus College Faculty Association’s W.H.O. Award on two occasions.

Energized by his passion for higher education, Jesus looks forward to continuing his advocacy and building strong collaborations that advance the work of educators and students alike.
