Awards

CCA Awards are given every year at the CCA Spring Conference during our annual W.H.O. Award Gala celebrating the vital work of our members and associations.

CCA believes that the work of our chapters and members is essential to the success of our association. As part of that, we encourage chapters to nominate their outstanding chapter members for CCA Awards. These awards include the We Honor Our Own (W.H.O.) Awards, the State W.H.O Award, the CCA Advocacy Award, and the Faculty Equity and Diversity Awards.

Please send completed forms and/or questions to grantsawards@cca4us.org

CCA Chapter WHO Award

Any CCA member who has made significant contributions to CCA at the chapter level may be nominated for the CCA Chapter We Honor Ours (WHO) Award, and these nominations are made through the respective chapter president. The Spring conference culminates on Saturday night with an awards banquet that includes the “We Honor Ours” (WHO) Award winners. This is a formal banquet where chapters honor one of their members who has made significant contributions to their local union. CCA also awards a state WHO recipient—who has engaged in statewide leadership—and the CCA Advocacy Award (see below). Submissions are due By March 20th at 5PM to Shelbie Casella, scassella@cta.org

Faculty Equity and Diversity Awards Nomination

CCA is proud to have initiated its Faculty Equity and Diversity Awards for outstanding service on behalf of community college faculty. Do you know a colleague who advocates for LGBTQIA+, Ethnic Minority, and/or Part Time Faculty and students? Have they done outstanding work to promote equity and diversity. If so, consider nominating them for a CCA Faculty Equity or Diversity Award. One recipient per year is selected for each of the following categories:

  • The LGBTQ+ Award, in honor of David Sanchez, CTA’s first openly gay president, recognizes faculty who have supported, promoted and educated our community college family regarding gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender issues.
  • The BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and people of color) Award, in honor of Mary Ann Pacheco, a Latina professor at Rio Hondo College, is given to faculty who promote equal access and treatment for ethnic minorities on campus.
  • The Part Time Faculty Award in honor of David Milroy, a longtime, part time faculty activist, is awarded to faculty who have worked to improve working conditions for part time faculty.

Award winners are honored during CCA’s annual Spring Conference. Nominations may be by self-nomination, chapter nomination, or any member may nominate another member. The nominee must agree to be nominated. Follow the instructions on the form for submission.  Submissions are due By March 15th at 5PM to Shelbie Casella, scassella@cta.org
