“The labor movement is people. Our unions have brought millions of men and women together, made them members one of another, and given them common tools for common goals. Their goals are goals for all America – and their enemies are the enemies for progress. The two cannot be separated.”
Molly Ivins
Conferences
CCA offers three professional conferences per year and encourages chapters to fill all of their delegate positions (based on chapter membership) at each conference. These annual conferences are known by their acronym: BAM.
The CCA Fall Conference is held in October and focuses bargaining, negotiations, and grievances. It’s also an opportunity to prioritize action items which affect our members.
The CCA Winter Conference is held in February and focuses on advocacy and the idea that “When We Fight We Win.” Delegates learn ways to advocate for their members at the local and state levels.
The CCA Spring Conference is held in April and focuses on membership recruitment, membership strategies, and member benefits. Delegates learn new ways to encourage member engagement.
Each CCA Conference includes a Council: the business meeting of CCA where positions on legislation are discussed and decided on; where the CCA budget is approved or amended; where CCA policy is debated and determined; and where CCA Council Committees report out and make recommendations that drive CCA’s actions. Delegates are chosen from their respective chapters. If you are a member interested in attending as a delegate, please contact your Chapter president.
Workshop Sessions
Have an idea for a Workshop?
If you are interested in providing a professional development workshop at one of the upcoming CCA conferences, please fill out a Conference Session Proposal Form and email your completed form to the CCA Conference Chair. Please email your form at least 12 weeks in advance of the scheduled conference.
ACADEMIES
CCA offers several academies each year: Bargaining, Grievances, Building Strong Locals (BSL), and California Leadership (CLA).
Bargaining Academy
CCA’s Bargaining Academy is a one day event held on the Saturday of the Fall Conference, and has three sequential sessions.
Grievance Academy
CCA’s Grievance Academy is a one day event held during the Saturday of the Winter Conference, and it too has three sequential sessions.
BSL & CLA
The BSL and CLA academies are annual events that alternate every other year and require attendance at all three CCA conferences. More information is available under Academies.
INTERESTED?
Members who want to participate in any of these academies should contact their chapter president to enroll.
WEBINARS & DISCUSSIONS
Each year, CCA reaches out to its members by offering a number of webinars. Conference/Council delegates are particularly encouraged to participate.
Unemployment
CCA hosts webinars each semester to help Part-time faculty navigate the application process for Unemployment Insurance Benefits.
Legislation & Policy
CCA will be hosting a webinar on upcoming legislation and associate policy for delegates prior to each Council where policy and legislative positions will be voted on.
Governance Documents
CCA will be hosting a webinar on upcoming changes to the CCA Bylaws and Standing Rules for delegates prior to each Council where changes will be voted on.
CCA also offers other “hot topic” webinars that include addressing Part-time faculty needs, state budget issues, and legislation. All webinars are advertised across CCA social media (see the bottom of the page for links), CCA publications, and the CCA Blog. Registration information can be found on the CCA Calendar linked at the top of this page.
FOR LEADERSHIP
CTA Presidents’ Conference—CCA Strand
Each year, at the CTA Presidents’ Conference, CCA offers a strand: one session for new presidents and vice presidents, and two sessions for all attendees. CTA does limit attendance to chapter presidents and vice presidents.
FOR CHAPTER LEADERSHIP TEAMS
CTA Summer Institute
In July of each year, CTA offers the CTA Summer Institute, which features 10 different and intensive trainings designed to grow your skills as a local leader and prepare you for success. CCA does not yet offer a strand here, but encourages chapters to send their leadership teams.
