CCA’s board is made up of elected members and leaders in our chapters; including officers, district directors, and other specialized directors focused on disenfranchised/ disproportionately impacted groups. Elections are held each Spring on a rotating two year basis. These leaders meet nine times a year, with the officers meeting at least an additional nine times to do the work of the association. Board members serve on one of four Board committees that meet during the standalone board meetings, prior to the Winter Conference, and additionally as determined by the committee. These committees do the day-to-day work of CCA and make recommendations to the Board for further action.
The Board of Directors takes direction from and makes recommendations to the CCA Council, which is made up of each chapter president and delegates determined by their chapter’s membership numbers. Additionally, chapter members volunteer to serve on one of CCA’s seven Council committees who do the research and make recommendations for changes or actions to the CCA Council.
The governing documents of CCA define the structure and rules of CCA in three documents: the Bylaws, the Standing Rules, and the Elections Manual. Changes to these documents are proposed by board members, committees, chapters, and individual members; changes are made by the Governance Committee.
Bylaws require a first and second reading and approval by the CCA Council. Changes to the Standing Rules and the Elections Manual, which is considered part of the Standing Rules, are approved by the Board and presented to the CCA Council as information items subject to change by Council.
